My NEW favorite Fountain Pen, November 17, 2011 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Monteverde Mini Jewelria Striped Brown Fountain Pen (MV59421) (Office Product) I was so impressed by the looks of this pen when I first opened the box. The pictures I've seen on the various websites did no justice. I did not know that the brown finish was a marble swirl that gives this pen an exquisite expensive look. The way the black and silver accents are placed adds that special look that doesn't add too much flare that makes it look cheap like many others I've seen.
I'm a fine or extra fine nib person when it comes to fountain pens but this medium nib on this Monteverde Mini has an unbelievable feel when writing. It's the smoothest one I own now. I own two Mont Blanc fountains (La Grand and Starwalker in fine nibs), two Cross fountains (Century II Classic Black - XF and the Bailey Chrome in med), and this much lower cost FP has them all beat hands down in my book. Under $45.00 shipped can't be beat.

It lays down a consistent medium line, even after sitting unused for 5-7 days. I like the fact that the cap threads on, both for capping and posting. I rarely post caps while writing. This pen is a well-balanced and smooth-to-hold pen when the cap is posted. The threading helps in several ways including the obvious--it doesn't pop off on you. That's a nice feature if you are scribbling while squeezed into a subway seat at rush hour. The spring clip has a fairly firm grip even on a tropical weight shirt. While the body is short without the cap I can write short notes without posting, and am comfortable. A good buy in my estimation. [I own a range of pens including Waterford, Bexley, Waterman, Lamy, Pelikan, others.]

The quality of this fountain pen is excellent. I really like the nibs that Monteverde uses, they are extremely smooth, as good or better than my more expensive fountain pens. This mini jewel measures 4 inches closed and 5 1/8 inches open, making it both convenient to carry and comfortable to write with. I prefer silver fittings to gold fittings in my fountain pens. I like the silver flat top on this pen and the clip is unusual in that it is fastened in the middle to the body of the pen. Excellent craftmanship and a jewel of a writing instrument.
