I didn't want to spend the $400+ for a Montblanc or nice Waterman, so I researched fountain pens, and found that the Sheaffer was an inexpensive, good starter fountain pen. After using it for a couple of days, I can that for the money, it's a good deal but not the right (or should I say write?) pen for everybody
The Sheaffer is a heavy pen, and quite long if you prefer writing with the cap on top, which I do. If your hands are small or tire easily, you may want to look at something smaller and lighter like a Lamy Safari. The pen comes with a black and a blue cartridge as well as a converter to use bottled ink (for many fountain pens you must buy the converter separately). The instructions for how to install the care are not very good. It contains three pictures and little text in several languages. Once the cartridge is installed and ready... Read more
